With the increased attention on the role that men can play in violence prevention, Shift has completed a research project in Calgary by surveying local agencies that serve men. The purpose of this project was to identify enablers and constraints for agencies and institutions involved in designing and offering programs and supports for men across the prevention continuum.
Recommendations from the report included creating strategies within human service organizations to engage and work with men, and curating organizational cultures to integrate men into workplaces traditionally dominated by women.
Shift has presented the findings to the Calgary Domestic Violence Collective’s Men and Boys Addressing Structural Violence Committee, and is hosting a lunch in March with key leaders to think through the implications for the sector.
