Reforming the Alberta Police Act, Police Service Regulation, and Provincial Policing Standards to Better Respond to Sexual and Gender Harassment in the Workplace

In 2020, Shift partnered with the Calgary Police Service to pilot “The Art of the Nudge” approach to advance gender equity and prevent violence within the workplace. As part of this research project, in June 2021, we developed a joint submission focused on ways the Alberta Police Act (RSA 2000) could be amended or revised to equip policing organizations in Alberta to better address instances of workplace sexual and gender harassment that are below the criminal threshold. The report was in response to the Government of Alberta 2018 call to amend and reform the Police Act, Police Service Regulation and Provincial Policing Standards. The report outlines key, evidence informed recommendations for the Government of Alberta.
