Lana Wells expressed her thoughts at the 16th Family Violence Conference Diverse Voices. Drawing on Shift’s review of 100 Domestic Violence Prevention Plans from the global North with a focus on what governments are doing to engage of men and boys in violence prevention, Lana Wells also focused on Shift’s review of Canada’s provincial and territorial prevention plans along with specific recommendations in the Alberta context. Lana argued that Alberta should develop a gender equality plan, commit to comprehensive and multi-systemic school based-intervention activities, prevent incidents of child abuse, and allocate funds for programs that promote non-violent and healthy masculinities in settings where men and boys naturally congregate (where they work, play, pray, and socialize).
