Lana Wells, the Brenda Strafford Chair in the Prevention of Domestic Violence, presented at the City of Calgary Community Services inaugural Diversity in Leadership Conference with the focus on women in leadership. Lana took this opportunity to reflect on her own leadership style, her successes and challenges, but also on the larger structures, like sexism, racism and patriarchy, that hurt everyone: “I think Patriarchy hurts everyone. We have all been socialized by it – and I believe men and boys have been harmed by the promotion of toxic masculinities and if we truly want to end violence against women we need to achieve gender equality and unpack what it means to be a healthy man and woman.”
