Shift is interested in understanding different levels of government commitments to preventing domestic and family violence. Recently, we were interested in exploring the role and commitment of municipal governments across Canada. In the summer of 2018, we conducted a preliminary national scan of municipal websites to identify council adopted policies, plans, frameworks, strategies or initiatives that focus on preventing domestic violence and/or sexual violence. The Canadian scan on domestic violence prevention policies at the municipal level demonstrates there is a lack of political will at the municipal level as there were only four Canadian cities that have made a specific policy commitment to ending violence.
