This one-page Social Policy Trends publication from The School of Public Policy and Shift: The Project to End Domestic Violence focuses on the age of perpetrators prior to a domestic violence charge in Calgary. In examining data related to 934 men charged by Calgary Police Service in 2019, this research finds that across age groups, police interactions trended upward in the 3 years before a domestic violence charge. The publication suggests that acts of domestic violence are not solely perpetrated by young men and that a history of police interactions may be a better predictor of domestic violence than the age of the perpetrator.
