This one-page Social Policy Trends publication from The School of Public Policy and Shift: The Project to End Domestic Violence focuses on the relationship between bail violations and domestic violence charges. In taking up a dataset supplied by the Calgary Police Service of 934 men charged with a domestic violence-related crime in 2019, the research demonstrates that bail violations are a frequent precursor to domestic violence charges. This builds on earlier findings which reveal that the majority of men charged with a domestic violence crime have been involved in an incident with police beforehand.
