Earlier this year, the Werklund School of Education and Shift: The Project to End Domestic Violence, in partnership with CAMH Prevention Science, introduced a new graduate-level, interdisciplinary program, called Safe Schools, Safe Communities. The goal of the program is to equip educators, social workers, health care providers, and other community service workers with the knowledge, skills, and confidence necessary to develop safe and caring learning environments inside and outside of formal school settings for all young people.

Since the release of the Engaging Men and Boys in the Prevention of Domestic Violence research, there have been a number of exciting new developments at the provincial and local levels.

Supporting fathers to become positively engaged in the lives of their children is a promising strategy to prevent intimate partner violence (IPV) in the next generation. Lana Wells, the Brenda Strafford Chair in the Prevention of Domestic Violence has recently received two new appointments:  

  1. Member of the Alberta Family Violence Death Review Committee: a multi-disciplinary, expert body, composed of a committee of individuals who have extensive knowledge or experience in the area of family violence.
